
Two new faces will be competing for a seat on council come Oct. 26.
They include Denise Maynard who is throwing her hat in the race for a seat representing Ward 2. Maynard is the lone female candidate in the ward, going up against Chad Carnie; Matthew Giffin, Matt Lamarche, Brad Snobelen, Spencer Stinson and Hassan Tariq. Two seats are open.
Tom Askew is the other new candidate. He’s running for one of two seats in Ward 1. Mark Authier, Michael Bond, Andrea Palmer and Gerhard Taves are also on the ballot.
As for the rest of the wards as of June 26, it’s status quo.
Five candidates are seeking the mayor’s chair, including West Kent Coun. Lauren Anderson, Chatham Coun. Michael Bondy, Nelson Burm, incumbent mayor Darrin Canniff and Ryan Gow.
Chatham’s Ward 6 has five names on the ballot: Ben Labadie, Brian Machado, Sheila Moir-Martin, Karen Montgomery and incumbent Alysson Storey. Two seats are available.
Ward 7 in Chatham has nine candidates vying for two available seats: Steve Adkins, Michael Fife, incumbent Amy Finn, Dustin Gawne, Larry Hutchins, Steve Kenney, Marc King, Jason Reynolds and Doug Robbins.
There are 10 people hoping to claim one of two available seats in Ward 8: Sandra Dorner, Ryan Drouillard, John Duquette, Andy Fisher, Paul Graciano, Debbie Martin, Rick Nicholls, Stephani Shill, Scott Thompson and Luke Van Der Vliet.
Six people are vying for a single seat in Ward 3: Kyle Carter, Cory Couture, Mark Huston, Emery Huszka, Matthew Pietens and James Plunkett.
In Wallaceburg’s Ward 5: Brendan Authier, Loree Bailey, Steve Burritt, Jay Debuck, Zac Nicholson, Dave Hyatt and Chris Young are the hopefuls running for two available seats.
In Ward 4: John Cummings, Kirk Hooker and incumbent Rhonda Jubenville are vying for a single seat.
Nominations are open until Aug. 21. Anyone interested in running can access the necessary information on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s webpage.
