Water-use restriction request hits other C-K communities

The municipality’s request to watch your water use until the end of the week has expanded beyond Chatham

On Monday, Public Utilities Commission personnel asked Chatham residents to hold off watering their lawns, washing their cars, filling their pools and such until repairs could be made on a major water transmission line supplying the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.

The request is to hold off such activities until Friday evening.

Now, the PUC has expanded that request to include Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Jeannette’s Creek, Thamesville and Kent Bridge.

“The conservation request is focused on reducing non-essential uses of water over the next few days to help maintain adequate water supplies while repairs are completed,” PUC officials said in a media release.

Normal everyday household use is not an issue.

There is no impact to water quality as well, officials said.

As part of the work, Charing Cross Road will be closed to through traffic in the immediate area of the repair site. Residents whose properties are within the affected section will continue to have access to their homes but will not be able to travel through the worksite.

Industrial, commercial and institutional water customers are also being contacted directly and asked to reduce water consumption where possible and consider rescheduling activities that require significant amounts of water.
