An encampment that took shape this summer on an empty lot on Duke Street in Wallaceburg has been moved to the water treatment plant property on Base Line on the west side of town.
According to a media release from the municipality, the Duke Street property owner advised the occupants to leave the site last week.
C-K Housing Services worked with municipal bylaw enforcement, Chatham-Kent police and R.O.C.K. Missions to find alternative housing for those affected.
Only 17 people were left with nowhere to go, which led officials to greenlight the Base Line site as an alternative.
The municipality will be providing basic services to the folks living in the encampment, including washrooms and garbage collection.
