Strict water restrictions put in place by the municipality have been rescinded in part.
But officials are still asking folks to use water responsibly.
According to media release by Chatham-Kent on Monday, businesses and residents in Chatham, Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Prairie Siding, Thamesville and Kent Bridge may resume normal use such as showering, laundry and bathing.
Larger institutional users have been contacted directly and are being asked to gradually resume water use over the next few days in order not to strain the system. Restaurants, car washes and laundromats are no longer being asked to voluntarily close.
Municipal splash pads and arenas will re-open Sept. 1.
However, Chatham-Kent is still asking citizens to restrict lawn watering. Customers with odd-numbered addresses are asked to water on odd numbered days, while people with even-numbered addressed asked to water on even numbered days.
In the media statement, Mayor Darrin Canniff said restricted water use over the weekend helped crews stabilize the system.
“This was truly a community effort and I want to thank everyone who stepped up when we needed them,” the mayor said.
The restrictions were put in place as a short-term measure to allow the water system to stabilize following repairs to the transmission line.
