Local doc earns med school accolades

Dr. Jacqueline Wolting shows off her recent Schulich Excellence in Distributed Education Award.

For Dr. Jacqueline Wolting, teaching the next generation of medical professionals is a deeply rewarding extension of her daily practice.

To that end, the family physician’s passion for sharing knowledge and facilitating learning has earned her a Schulich Excellence in Distributed Education Award from the University of Western Ontario’s Schulich School of Medicine.

According to a joint media release from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and the Thamesview Family Health Team, the honour is bestowed upon exceptional individuals who move the school forward through outstanding leadership, curiosity, and a deep commitment to improving community health, research, and patient care.

Distributed education plays a vital role in training future health-care professionals by placing medical students and residents into community settings outside of the university campus, the release stated, offering them invaluable, real-world clinical experience.

For Wolting, who also provides obstetric care at the CKHA, welcoming medical learners into the Chatham-Kent community enriches their education while strengthening local health-care services as a whole.

“I am constantly inspired by the curiosity and dedication of my medical students and residents,” Wolting said in the release. “I am also proud to work alongside many of them who have remained in Chatham-Kent after completing their training here. This achievement is a reflection of the incredible collaborative support from my colleagues at Schulich, CKHA, and the Thamesview Family Health Team – including my patients – who make this vital work possible every day.”

Dr. Lindsay Sutherland, Chatham-Kent Regional Academic Director for distributed education at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, said Wolting “stands out” as an exceptional educator whose leadership, teaching excellence, and unwavering commitment to learners “exemplify the very spirit of this award.”

CKHA chief of staff Dr. Zeke Milkovic said Wolting’s achievement is a “true testament to the high calibre of medical leadership we have right here in Chatham-Kent.

“Her commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and providing top-tier medical mentorship ensures that Chatham-Kent remains a premier destination for training,” Milkovic said. “It is this dedication to education that ultimately helps us attract and retain the talented new physicians our community relies upon.”
