Store sleeper arrested

An attempt to wake up a man sleeping in a Chatham store on Friday elicited a violent response.

Police say when staff went to wake up a man sleeping inside a St. Clair Street store shortly after noon on Friday, the man assaulted an employee.

No serious injuries were reported. Chatham-Kent police officers arrived and arrested the man.

The officers also found the man was in breach of his probation conditions.

As a result, a 27-year-old man is charged with assault and failing to comply.

Dog threatened, man charged

A man faces charges after police say he threatened to harm a family’s pet dog on the weekend.

Police say the incident took place Saturday morning, about 8:15 a.m., and that the man was holding a knife when he made the threat at a Victoria Road home in Ridgetown.

Officers located the accused and arrested him.

A 27-year-old man is charged with uttering threats – damage or injury to animal.

And stay out!

Two men face trespass charges after police say they went back to the residence from which they were evicted.

The homeowner went to check on the property Saturday afternoon and found the two men inside, despite having recently evicted them.

The homeowner called police and the two men were arrested.

Two men, 45 and 28, received provincial offence notices for trespassing.

He had to bring a knife…

A Blenheim teenager faces charges after someone brandished a knife during a fracas on McGregor Street in Blenheim Sunday evening.

Police were called over a disturbance on McGregor. Officers learned a group of youths was causing the disturbance and that one was seen brandishing a knife. The officers located the group on John Street North.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old Blenheim lad is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
