$382K infusion for health unit

The Ford government threw cash at 29 public health units, including CK Public Health, recently.

The 29 health units share $60.09 million in this one-time funding. Here in Chatham-Kent, CK Public Health received under $382,700.

According to a provincial government media release, the funding is earmarked “to support local public health initiatives and service delivery priorities that respond to community needs.”

Chatham-Kent–Leamington MPP Trevor Jones said the funding illustrates the government’s ongoing “commitment to protecting public health and ensuring communities like Chatham-Kent have the resources they need to deliver essential services.

The funding will support a range of public health initiatives, allowing Public Health Units the flexibility to address pressing needs while maintaining effective service delivery at the local level, according to the media release.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault, a hard man for local media to track down, said through a media release that health units are essential parts of the communities they serve.

“Our government recognizes the vital role that public health units play in building healthier, more resilient communities,” he said in the release. “This one-time funding will help ensure front-line public health services remain strong and responsive to the needs of residents.”

According to officials at CK Public Health, “This was one-time funding we had requested, and were expecting, for planned initiatives for the 2025-26 fiscal year.”
