
A serious assault on Christmas Eve was among the nearly 900 incidents local police responded to from Dec. 24 to 28.
According to a Chatham-Kent Police Service media release, a 22-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault causing bodily harm on Dec. 24, as well as uttering threats and obstructing and assaulting a peace officer.
Police allege the man physically assaulted a 39-year-old woman by choking, however, the victim did not require medical attention.
The suspect, who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for breaching bail conditions, was agitated and unco-operative when police arrived on scene at the Princess Street residence around 9 p.m., police say.
The man was arrested and transported to CKPS headquarters for a bail hearing and is said to have spit at officers during the booking process.
Christmas Day saw police respond to a domestic dispute on George Street in Ridgetown shortly before midnight.
According to the report, a 33-year-old female from Ridgetown was charged with assault after reportedly punching a 39-year-old man in the face during a verbal argument.
The woman was released on bail and will return to court Feb. 2.
A second C-K woman was charged with assault on Boxing Day following an intimate partner incident in Chatham. According to police, the 26-year-old female allegedly assaulted a 31-year-old man with a set of keys, causing injury. She will return to court in late January.
Boxing Day also saw charges laid against a woman, 48, who drove a vehicle into the water at the boat launch on Kingsway Drive in Chatham. Emergency services, including police, fire and EMS were called to the scene and safely removed the uninjured woman from the partially submerged vehicle.
She is facing a careless driving charge under the Highway Traffic Act.
CKPS also laid at least three impaired driving charges over the four-day period.
