Wednesday Chatham-Kent police briefs

‘It wasn’t me’

Providing a fake name to police has landed a Chatham man in hot water.

On Tuesday evening, about 10:30 p.m. police were called to a Harvey Street residence for a disturbance.

Officers spoke with one man, and police say he gave them a false name.

However, the officers sorted things out and learned their suspect was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

A 22-year-old Chatham man is charged with obstructing police and failing to comply with a release order.

Car rummaged, man arrested

An early morning rifling of a vehicle in a Margaret Avenue parking lot in Chatham earned a man time behind bars.

Police got the call about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday morning that someone was loitering in a parking lot and then went into someone else’s vehicle.

Police located the suspect, and as a result found what they said was “a significant number of stolen items in his possession.”

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with theft.
