Crash and dash

A Chatham man is up on charges after police say he drove into a scooter and fled the scene Tuesday.

About 12:45 p.m., an SUV was leaving a gas station on Grand Avenue West when it collided with a mobility scooter, sending the 70-year-old scooter driver onto the sidewalk.

Police say the incident was captured on CCTV cameras and officers were able to identify and locate the driver a short time later.

A 50-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to remain, failing to report, careless driving and driving while under suspension.

Theft from vehicle

A Tilbury man faces charges after police say someone rifled through a vehicle on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Tuesday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police got the call just after noon that someone had gotten into an unlocked vehicle and took several items.

Police located a man a short distance away in possession of the stolen goods.

As a result, a 29-year-old Tilbury man is charged with two counts of theft and three of possession of stolen property.
