
No one was injured in two fires in Chatham-Kent Wednesday.
A faulty dryer is to blame for a fire on Forest Street in Chatham Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene of 72 Forest St. about 10:30 a.m. for a report of a fire at a two-storey home.
They arrived to see smoke coming out of the basement.
Crews quickly put out the fire and checked for hot spots.
Damage is estimated at about $5,000.
Earlier that morning, at 8:30 a.m., fire crews were called for a garage fire at 245 Elm St. in Bothwell thanks to an alert neighbour.
Firefighters from Bothwell and Thamesville arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the detached garage. They quickly got the fire under control.
The fire has been ruled an accident.
Estimated damage is $5,000.
