Cemetery arrest

In a scene out of a Cheech & Chong movie, a Blenheim woman faces impaired driving charges from a wild incident on Monday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police received a report of a suspected impaired driver on Scane Road in East Kent. Police caught up with the vehicle on O’Neil Line, and tried to pull it over.

The driver failed to stop, police say, and drove into a nearby cemetery, where officers deployed stop sticks and surrounded the vehicle.

But the day wasn’t over yet. Police say the driver refused to get out of the vehicle, or even roll down a window.

She was observed by officers sparking up a joint, police say.

The officers smashed a window, got the vehicle turned off and determined the driver was impaired.

A 71-year-old Blenheim woman was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests. She is charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and flight from police.

Assault via spittle

A Chatham-Kent woman faces charges after someone was spat upon Tuesday.

Police were called about 12:30 p.m. on Canada Day to a King Street West business.

A woman said she’d been spat on. Police say it occurred when a person had been refused service based on insufficient funds.

Police say the woman was also threatened.

A 40-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is charged with assault and uttering threats.

Crash leads to impaired charge

A Chatham woman faces impaired driving charges following a single-vehicle accident on Canada Day.

Officers were called to Bear Line in North Kent about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle in a ditch.

Officers spoke with an off-duty officer who suspected that the driver was impaired. The responding officer assessed the situation and determined she was impaired.

She was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 54-year-old woman Chatham woman is charged with impaired driving.

Man slapped, woman charged

A Tilbury woman faces charges after a man was slapped during an argument Monday night.

 

Police were called about 9:45 p.m. Monday for a disturbance on Richardson Avenue in Tilbury.

The investigating offers were greeted by a man and woman, both of whom appeared calm and confirmed that a verbal argument had taken place, police say. The investigation revealed that during the altercation; the female slapped the male.

A 22-year-old Tilbury woman is charged with assault.
