No one was injured during an afternoon house fire in Chatham on Family Day.
Firefighters responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. to a report of a fire at 46 Patteson Ave. in Chatham. The could see smoke and flames emanating from the rear of the duplex when they arrived.
The first team on the scene took hoses in right through the front door to battle the fire at the rear of the building.
The second team brought hoses around the side of the house to attack the fire from the exterior.
Crews were greeted by intense heat at the rear of the dwelling. They cut holes in the ceiling from below and from the roof above to attack the fire.
No one was at home at the time of the fire.
Damage is estimated at $400,000.
The cause is undetermined.
