Rough day for Dresden man

Chatham-Kent police say a Dresden man freaked out at a pizza joint in Dresden Monday afternoon and then got into a spat with his landlord later in the day.

Shortly before 1 p.m., police responded to Godfathers Pizza on St. George Street South in Dresden for a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers learned a man had entered the restaurant and started throwing items around. When staff members asked the man to clean up the mess, the man threatened one of them, police say. The officer arrested the man and transported them to police headquarters.

A 21-year-old Dresden man was charged with mischief and uttering threats. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Fast forward to shortly after 5 p.m. Police responded to Queen Street East in Dresden as the man was causing another disturbance with his landlord.

Officers say he argued with his landlord and that escalated when the man brandished a small silver knife. The man was arrested by officers and transported to police headquarters.

The 21-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held pending a bail hearing.

Repeated 911 calls lead to arrest

Twenty calls to the police on Monday evening ultimately led to a Chatham man being arrested.

Between 6:11 p.m. and 8:33 p.m., the man contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service via 911 and the non-emergency line approximately 12 times. He falsely reported an incident that investigators confirmed had not occurred, police say. Emergency communication operators repeatedly cautioned the man regarding the appropriate use of the 911 service, but he responded with belligerence.

Between 8:41 p.m. and 10:55 p.m., the man continued his disruptive behaviour by making approximately eight more calls to the police. During these calls, he yelled, screamed, and used offensive language toward the operators, police say.

At 12:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers attended the man’s Lacroix Street home in Chatham and arrested him.

A 53-year-old Chatham man was charged with public mischief and harassing communications. He was held pending a bail hearing.

Stolen debit, credit cards

A Wallaceburg man faces charges after someone broke into a vehicle, stole a wallet and made purchases with the owner’s debit and credit cards.

Police say on Dec. 8 just before noon, they were called to Arnold Street in Wallaceburg to investigate a theft from a vehicle. Officers learned a wallet containing debit and credit cards was stolen.

The cards had been used at several Wallaceburg businesses.

Through investigation, the officer obtained video surveillance from one of the businesses and identified the man using the stolen cards.

The officer also confirmed the man was bound by a probation order with a curfew condition of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

On Monday, the 34-year-old Wallaceburg man was located on Turnbull Avenue in Wallaceburg and arrested.

He has been charged with possession of stolen property, using a credit card without authorization, fraud, and failing to comply with a probation order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Skipped court dates

In mid-October, a man was charged with mischief and given a court date for Nov. 20.

However, police say he never showed.

A warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, police found the man on King Street West in Chatham and arrested him.

A 57-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with mischief and failing to attend court. He was released with a new court date.

At 9:02 p.m., police located a man on Murray Street in Chatham and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court concerning several investigations.

A 40-year-old Chatham-Kent man was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. He currently faces the following charges: obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, two counts of uttering threats, two counts of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property.

At 9:20 a.m., police located a woman on Murray Street in Chatham. They confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court concerning an assault investigation.

A 30-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. She currently is facing the following charges: uttering threats, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of failing to attend court, and three counts of mischief.

On Tuesday at 2:34 a.m., police located a woman on Mary Street in Chatham. The officer confirmed the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court concerning a break-and-enter investigation.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was issued a new court date and released. She was initially charged with being unlawful in a dwelling house and possession of stolen property.
