Library ‘cans’ fines

The Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering a “Food for Fines” initiative from Oct. 30 to Nov. 4.

During that time, patrons who owe the library money can donate a non-perishable food item to settle up fines of up to $5, for up to a maximum benefit of $50 per account.

The food donations will be distributed to local organizations to benefit residents from across Chatham-Kent.

The initiative can only be applied to fines that are late, and patrons will still be required to pay for materials that are lost or damaged.

Even if you aren’t in arrears at the library, you are still invited to participate by dropping off a food item.
