A painful relationship

Chatham-Kent police report arresting a man and a woman on intimate partner violence and obstruction charges Monday.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Campus Parkway in Chatham. A verbal argument between a man and a woman escalated when the man caused damage to a door and a wall, threatened to cause harm to the woman, and physically assaulted her.

Initially, the woman provided false information to the police regarding the man’s living arrangements. However, through investigation, the police discovered that the man had been staying at the residence with the woman.

However, in early January, the man was released from court, police say, with conditions to not be within 100 metres of the woman involved in Monday’s altercation. The reason behind the restriction, police say was assault causing bodily harm charges.

Yet on Monday, a 33-year-old Chatham man was charged with mischief, uttering threats, assault, assault causing bodily harm and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held for bail.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was charged with facilitating a breach of a release order and obstructing the police.

Police recover stolen vehicle

On Sunday, police were on general patrol in Howard Township when they came across an abandoned vehicle.

An investigation revealed the vehicle was a scrap car that had been stolen from a nearby property. The suspects drove the vehicle through a fence and continued a short distance before the vehicle broke down. The suspects then fled the area.

The fence suffered moderate damage and the vehicle was returned to the owner.

A ride down Riverview Line on Sunday went badly for a Chatham man.

Police say he lost control of his vehicle and hit several trees.

He was treated for what police describe as “moderate” injuries.

Through investigation, police also determined the driver was operating his motor vehicle in a careless manner.

A 56-year-old Chatham man is charged with careless driving.

Give your head a shake

Two males were involved in a verbal argument on the weekend when one of the males allegedly grabbed onto the other’s head and began shaking him.

As a result, a 31-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with one count of assault.

No licence? Big problem

An alert officer spotted someone they knew to have a suspended driver’s licence behind the wheel of a vehicle Monday.

As a result, a 37-year-old Chatham woman faces multiple offences and her vehicle was towed.

A daylight break-in on the weekend is under investigation.
