‘Gun’ brandished in downtown Chatham

Two youths received a stern talking to on the weekend from Chatham-Kent police after someone was spotted downtown waving a gun around.

Police say a citizen spotted two youths on the top level of the parking garage of the Downtown Chatham Centre Saturday, and police say one was showcasing the gun.

Officers arrived and found the two youths exiting the main level and arrested them.

A search located a BB gun in a backpack. 

The youths were cautioned about their actions and released to their parents with no charges.

Weapons charges in Wallaceburg

A man was stopped by police Friday for a theft investigation on Wallace street in Wallaceburg, and faces charges as a result.

During the investigation, the man was found to have a BB gun that looked like a real handgun. 

The man was currently on conditions and probation. He was arrested and charged with failing to comply with probation, failing to comply with undertaking, weapons dangerous and carrying a concealed weapon. 

Assault, uttering threats

On Sunday morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance at Walmart in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, officers learned that a woman attended the store and damaged three hanging flower baskets that were on display for sale, while being asked to leave and escorted out of the store by employees, police say.  

The woman went back to the store a short time later and was found in the make-up section attempting to conceal items in her bag.  When the woman was asked to leave again, she became irate and grabbed a sign holder and struck an employee, while threatening her, police say.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody, while yelling obscenities at the officers.  As she was being transported to police headquarters, the woman spit all over the rear of the cruiser, police say. 

A 30-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and two counts of mischief.

Domestic-related charges

On Sunday night, police received information regarding intimate partner violence.    

Through investigation, a 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault, forcible confinement and criminal harassment.  

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing. 

B&E in Wallaceburg

Sometime Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. someone entered a gated compound on Lowe Avenue in Wallaceburg, getting in through a hole that was cut in the fence.  

Once inside, the suspect(s) damaged a window of a vehicle and stole various items.  

Total damage has been estimated at $1000.
