Chatham-Kent Victim Services is kicking off a volunteer recruitment drive.

Victim Services is looking to recruit people of all ages and all backgrounds as community crisis responders who provide emotional support to people in their most painful moments and refer to other community resources that assist them on their healing journey.

The organization provides confidential, immediate emotional support to those impacted by crime, tragedy, or trauma in the community.

Victim Services’ crisis responders could be called on scene to offer immediate emotional support for a family that has just lost a loved one.

To be a crisis responder, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle, have a cell phone and e-mail, complete a police vulnerable sector check, be willing to commit to 48 hours of on-call shifts per month, and complete mandatory training.

This spring, Victim Services will offer its training class on May 6 and 7 in person from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both training days are mandatory.

Those interested in volunteering can apply online at www.ckvictimservices.com/volunteer.

Anyone with questions can contact Jason Brown, volunteer and community engagement co-ordinator at jbrown@ckvictimservices.com
