Local school boards are still unsure what will happen come Monday in terms of your child’s education.

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) said they have been notified that members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1238 will join their colleagues across the province in a legal strike involving a full withdrawal of services in Ontario schools, effective Monday, unless there is progress at the central bargaining table with the Ministry of Education and the trustees’ association.

If the strike is a go, CUPE staff will not report to work. That means custodians, early childhood educators, educational assistants, secretaries, library and computer technicians and other school-based and central staff members will be on the picket line.

Both school boards said if that is the case, all schools will be closed. The boards will revert to online learning.

For LKDSB, all students in secondary schools who are enrolled in in-person learning will transition to synchronous teacher-led remote learning on Monday, November 21, 2022 and for the duration of the strike action with a full withdrawal of services.

All students in elementary schools who are enrolled in in-person learning will transition to asynchronous learning Monday and to synchronous learning on Wednesday for the duration of the strike action with a full withdrawal of services.

As for SCCDSB students, asynchronous learning opportunities begin for all students Monday in the event of a strike.  A live Google meet will be arranged.  Teachers will provide more information.

The next day, synchronous instruction would begin.  The regular school schedule will be maintained.  Attendance will be taken as required by Ontario regulation.

Synchronous remote learning includes live, online teacher-led lessons. Students will receive instructions about their transition to synchronous virtual learning as per their typical means of school communication.

Visit the LKDSB website or the SCCDSB website for up-to-date information regarding contract negotiations.
