Pedestrian badly injured

A Ridgetown man is in custody, while the pedestrian Chatham-Kent police say he hit Wednesday in Ridgetown is fighting for her life.

The incident took place shortly before 2 p.m. on Main Street. Police say a woman had just gotten out of her vehicle when she was hit by another car.

Police say the driver of that vehicle took off.

Meanwhile, the 66-year-old Howard Township woman was transported to the hospital and later airlifted to Windsor Hospital. She sustained multiple life-threatening injuries.

Through investigation, witness statements and surveillance video, police say officers located the vehicle and driver.

A 38-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with failing to remain at a collision resulting in bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and two related Highway Traffic Act offences. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Warrant arrests

Chatham-Kent police scooped up a couple of men yesterday wanted on outstanding warrants.

The first was located on Queen Street in Chatham shortly after 8 a.m.

Police say the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation and mischief under $5,000.

A 39-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released with a future court.

In late afternoon, officers saw the other man on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

This man was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court, failing to comply with a probation order and obstructing a peace officer.

A 40-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was held pending a bail hearing.
