Man charged for assaulting his mother, passerby, cop

Monday morning wasn’t kind to a Blenheim woman. Chatham-Kent police say they received a report of an assault in that community shortly after 9 a.m.

According to police, a man and his mother were arguing outside a residence on Chatham Street South in Blenheim.

The argument escalated when the man began damaging property and assaulting his mother, police say.

A passerby witnessed the assault and intervened, and the witness was also assaulted, according to police.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. While in custody, the man caused further mischief in the holding cell and assaulted a police officer, police say.

A 19-year-old Blenheim man is charged with two counts of mischief, two counts of assault and one count of assaulting a police officer. He was held pending a bail hearing.
