Interested parties have until Aug. 22 to provide input on the usage of short-term dwelling rentals in Chatham-Kent.

The municipality is looking to gain an understanding of both short-term dwelling rental issues as well as opportunities across the municipality.

Nearly 100 people have responded to the survey that asks questions about whether they own or plan to purchase a short-term rental property, their impressions of short-term rentals, and whether more municipal regulation is needed.

Short-term dwelling rentals are often marketed for rent through online platforms, cottage rental agencies, and buy-and-sell forums.

Hosts may rent entire dwellings, apartments, secondary dwellings, seasonal dwellings, or bedrooms in a home on a short-term basis.

For this review, a short-term rental does not include commercial accommodations such as hotel or motel units.

The results of the survey will be provided to council in September.
