Bail violations

Lying in the grass at a Chatham park ultimately led to a man’s arrest Thursday night.

But there’s more.

Chatham-Kent police got the call shortly after 8:30 p.m. to check on the well-being of a man lying in the grass at Lions Park on Steward Street in Chatham.

Police arrived and learned the man was on a condition to be inside his residence between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The man was arrested and released with a future court date.

At 11:42 p.m., police responded to a suspicious person complaint on Wilson Avenue in Chatham. The homeowner told police the man knocked on their door and went to their backyard when they didn’t answer.

Police attended and found the same man in the neighbour’s backyard.

The man was found in violation of his curfew condition again.

A 63-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and trespassing at night. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.


About 12:40 a.m., police were notified of a man seen walking southbound on Sandys Street in Chatham. The man appeared to be disoriented, walking on and off the roadway.

Police attended and learned on April 22, the court had placed the man on a Conditional Sentence Order. The man was to remain in his residence at all times with particular exceptions.

He was transported to the hospital for medical attention. Once he was cleared medically, the man was arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.

A27-year-old Chatham the man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing.
