Forty-nine.

That’s the death toll in Chatham-Kent from COVID-19 so far in this pandemic.

Over the past 24 hours, Chatham-Kent lost its 49th person in 22 months to the virus, according to CK Public Health figures.

That makes for 22 people lost to COVID in C-K so far in 2022, and we are barely over a month into it.

COVID-19 numbers continue to drop – from the number in hospital, to the number of new cases reported daily – as we appear to be on the downward side of the omicron plateau.

Of the 19 people in Chatham-Kent Health Alliance beds with COVID-19, only nine are there primarily due to the virus.

Of those, four are fully vaccinated, four are unvaccinated and one is partially vaccinated.

There are still four people in the ICU with the illness.

CK Public Health reports 29 confirmed new cases over the past 24 hours via PCR testing, but again stresses the numbers are likely significantly higher due to the limited access to testing for high-risk-only people with symptoms.

The rolling seven-day average sits at 46.

We are down to six areas of outbreak; four seniors’ homes and two group homes.
