Threatened with a shard of glass

A Chatham man has a lot to answer to after someone kicked in a door and threatened staff at a store last night.

Chatham-Kent police say it all took place around 9 p.m. at a store on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police learned that when the man was asked to leave the store, he kicked the front doors, causing the glass to shatter.

The man then picked up a jagged shard of glass and walked back into the business and approached an employee in a threatening manner while yelling obscenities, police say.

A local citizen intervened and escorted the man outside to await police arrival.

A 29-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief, assault with a weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Theft charges

Around 3 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious person on Gladstone Avenue in Chatham.

The man used the debit card at various gas stations and convenience stores. With the assistance of video surveillance, police identified the man responsible and he was located within the hour walking on St. Clair Street.
