Reopening violation in Wheatley

Chatham-Kent police continue to receive and investigate complaints about gatherings at churches across Chatham-Kent.

Yesterday, a member of the Old Colony Mennonite Church in Wheatley was charged in connection with gatherings on May 9 and 16.

A 44-year-old Wheatley man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a continued 7.0.2 order as per Ontario Regulation 364/20, of the Reopening Ontario Act, 2020.

B&E suspect arrested

Shortly after 10 p.m. last night, police responded to a break and enter in progress to a garage on Richard Street in Ridgetown.

Through investigation, police located the man responsible and he was arrested.

A 23-year-old Windsor man has been charged with break and enter, mischief and possession of stolen property. He remains in police custody this morning and will be released when sober.

Torched Durango recovered

As previously released, sometime Sunday morning between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. someone stole a black 2012 Dodge Durango from a residence on Nelson Street. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates AZJB 677.

Yesterday, the burnt vehicle was located on Walpole Island.

Fraud charges

You can’t cash a cheque more than once.

On May 14, police responded to a fraud complaint at Money Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that on April 12, a man cashed a $79 government issued cheque for the second time.

With the assistance of video surveillance, police identified the man responsible for fraudulent using the cheque.

Around 2:30 a.m. this morning, police located the man on Inshes Avenue in Chatham.

A 42-year-old Chatham man is charged with fraud.

Theft from a storage unit

Sometime last week, between May 11 and 12, someone forced their way into a storage unit on Richmond Street in Chatham and stole various items, such as collectibles, sculptures, KISS memorabilia, a dining tent, inflatable bed and tools. Total value of the theft has been estimated at $2,400.
