One woman is in hospital, another is behind bars following a stabbing in Chatham on Monday.

Yesterday afternoon, Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance outside an apartment building on Riverview Drive in Chatham.

Officers learned that a verbal argument between two women, known to each other, escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in one of the women being stabbed.

The victim, a 30-year-old Chatham woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The woman police say is responsible fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Last night, police located the woman in Ridgetown and she was arrested.

A 28-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with attempted murder and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
