Active COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent reached 32 on Wednesday, according to the latest CK Public Health data.

Five new cases were confirmed in the afternoon, and one was confirmed on Tuesday. The cumulative total now sits at 406.

One “congregate living outbreak” was declared on Wednesday, affecting two people. Congregate living refers to group homes, shelters or other group living situations. The location will not be released due to privacy concerns and because it is not open to the public.

There are now three ongoing outbreaks in Chatham-Kent.

Seventeen of the active cases are tied with the Blenheim church outbreak declared last week, and a workplace outbreak is also listed as active.

Fifteen students were sent home from Chatham-Kent Secondary School earlier this week after being in contact with a probable case. According to Public Health officials, none of the new cases to date are from the school’s community.

Per capita, Chatham-Kent has the most active cases per 100,000 residents compared to its neighbouring counties.

Windsor-Essex and Middlesex-London sit at 42 and 57 active cases respectively. Both regions are roughly four times Chatham-Kent’s population. Southwestern Public Health (Oxford- Elgin- St. Thomas) are recording 15 active cases and Sarnia-Lambton has three.
