Grand(ma) theft auto
Yesterday morning, a Chatham-Kent police officer on general patrol in Ridgetown observed the man in a vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Albert Street.
The officer recognized the man as he was wanted for breaching his Probation Order.
The man was arrested and through investigation, police learned that he had stolen his grandmother’s car and damaged property at her home over the weekend.
A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with two counts of failing to comply with his Probation Order, theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
Traffic stop leads to drug charges
Around 4 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate travelling on Lacroix Street in Chatham.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and the passenger fled on foot. Following a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody and arrested on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation.
Through investigation, police observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
The driver, a 29-year-old Chatham woman, was arrested for failing to comply with her release conditions by being in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Upon being searched incident to arrest, she was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine, fentanyl and a large amount of cash.
She has been charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, four counts of failing to comply with her release conditions and driving with an obstructed plate.
A 36-year-old Chatham man was additionally charged with breaching his curfew. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Mischief
Yesterday, a woman reported to police that her common-law husband had damaged property in the home with a hammer following a verbal argument.
A 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.
Stolen truck
Yesterday afternoon around 12:30 p.m., someone stole a red 2014 Ford F-150 from a gas station on Keil Drive.
Just before 1 p.m., officers located the vehicle unoccupied on Gregory Drive.
Officers searched the area on foot and located several items of clothing discarded in a garbage can on Christina Place.

Plate problems
Last night, police responded to a broken down vehicle on McKays Line near Kenesserie Road.
Through investigation, the officer learned that the man was driving with no license or insurance. The vehicle also had two different license plates attached to it.
A 25-year-old Chatham man was charged with operating a vehicle with no insurance, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and driving with no license.
The license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
