It is still unknown how many animals were lost following a fire at an animal rescue centre on Brook Line.

Firefighters from station 7 – Chatham South responded to the call Thursday at midnight after the barn caught fire.

“The majority of our residents were able to walk away unharmed but we have suffered the loss of some of our dearest friends. We will announce their passing soon, as we are currently working on a lot of difficult tasks and need time to process this tragedy,” read a social media statement put out by Charlotte’s Freedom Farm.

No personal injuries were reported and the cause is still unknown, damages from the fire are estimated to cost $400,000.

“If you know us well, you know how particular and meticulous about safety we are with all our animals. We had an electrician come out to make sure everything was safe before we even moved any animals onto the property. There was nothing plugged into the outlets in the barn at all last night,” read the statement.

The story will be updated.
