Due to the difficulty in enforcing physical distancing with Children, municipal officials have opted to shut down all public playgrounds for now.

The Chatham Voice

On Friday, Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Colby ordered the closure of all city-owned playground equipment until further notice, including publicly owned basketball and tennis courts, picnic areas and outdoor exercise equipment.

“It is very difficult to enforce physical distancing amongst youth, and it becomes increasingly difficult to do so at these locations” stated Colby.

A safety warning sign will be posted at closed locations to further alert the public of the closures.

CK Public Health reminds people who choose to visit municipal trails or green spaces to keep at least two-metres between themselves and others, to take necessary precautions such as washing their hands before and after visiting the sites.

Those in public are reminded to cough and sneeze into a disposable tissue or their elbow.

People who are not feeling well should not leave their home and self-isolate if they have flu-like symptoms.
