Odd threats

Pretending to shoot a woman with a finger gun and surprising her by shouting “boom” has led to charges against a Chatham man.

Police say it started yesterday about 3 p.m. at a Grand Avenue convenience store. The man pretended to shoot the female employee by making the shape of a gun with his hand.

The woman thought the man had left the area, police say, and she took the trash out the back door, where he reportedly jumped out from behind the garbage bin and yelled, “Boom!”

Officers arrested a 36-year-old Chatham man and charged him with uttering threats.
