Radar guns work overtime on Hwy. 401

Chatham-Kent OPP officers had a busy weekend stopping speedsters.

On April 21, at about 7:30 p.m., an officer clocked a westbound vehicle doing in excess of 170 km/h on Highway 401 near Scane Road.

A 20-year-old Aurora man faces charges of racing a motor vehicle. His licence is under a seven-day suspension, and his ride is in the impound yard.

Mere hours later, near Merlin Road, an officer clocked a westbound vehicle doing more than 160 km/h on the 401 at 1 a.m. on April 22.

A 22-year-old Windsor man faces racing a motor vehicle charges. Car and licence are gone for seven days.

That evening, an OPP officer clocked an eastbound vehicle doing more than 150 km/h on the 401 near Kent Bridge Road.

A 21-year-old Mississauga man lost his licence and vehicle for a week, and faces racing charges.

And early this morning, about 1:45 a.m., police radar caught another speeder. This time, the car was headed westbound and was doing more than 150 km/h.

A 28-year-old Rochester Hills, Mich. man faces racing charges. He too lost his licence and vehicle for seven days.

Police remind motorists the penalties for blasting along at more than 50 km/h over the speed limit also bring fines of between $2,000 and $10,000 upon conviction, plus the loss of six demerit points, a possible jail sentence, and up to loss of your licence for up to two years for a first-time offender.
