police lights

On Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed a pick- up truck travelling westbound on Main Street in Ridgetown with four people riding in the open portion of the truck bed.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and learned that the two passengers in the front seat were also not wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the truck, an 18-year-old Watford man was charged with failing to surrender his driver’s license.  His six passengers were charged with failing to wear a seatbelt.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind motorists that there can only be as many passengers in the vehicle as there are seatbelts.  Failing to wear a seatbelt may result in a $240 fine.
