Saturday night around 7:30p.m. a Chatham-Kent Police officer had his cruiser stopped at a red light, at the intersection of Park Ave and Keil Drive.

An advance green left-turn arrow signaled on the traffic lights and a truck stopped beside the marked Police cruiser proceeded straight through the red light, narrowly missing a vehicle making a lawful left turn.

Once the officer was able to safely get the vehicle stopped, he noticed a box of wine on the floor beside the driver and made physical observations of the driver to believe that he was impaired. He was subsequently arrested and transported for breath tests, to be conducted by a Certified Breath Technician.

The driver’s tests resulted in over 3x the legal limit of 80mg or alcohol in 100ml of blood.

A 54 year old Raleigh TWP man was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Over 80. His licence was automatically suspended and his vehicle was impounded. He was later released with a future court date, once he had sufficient time to sober up.
