The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic disturbance in Chatham yesterday morning.
Around 8:00 a.m. the man and his common-law girlfriend began arguing at their residence. This incident escalated into a physical confrontation as the man assaulted the woman. She called a family member for help. The man stated that if he showed up, he would assault him too. The woman and her young child fled the residence and upon exiting, the man assaulted her again. When the family member arrived, the man exited the residence and confronted him. The woman ran back into the apartment and locked the door. The man threatened to break the door down if she didn’t open it.
Upon police arrival, the man was taken into custody. The 29-year-old Chatham man has been charged with three counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats and one count of uttering threats to cause mischief. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
