Chatham’s Bridget Carleton, one of Canada’s top women’s basketball prospects, has made a verbal commitment to play for the NCAA Big 12′s Iowa State Cyclones.

According to Carleton, Iowa State, an NCAA Division I team, who appeared in the NCAA tournament last season after finishing with a 20-11, was the place she wanted to be.

“I felt like Iowa State was the best overall fit for me,” said Carleton. “The coaches are amazing, they have the program I am interested in, the facilities are great, I think I will fit into their style of play and the game environment when I visited was unbelievable. Just felt very comfortable and welcomed by everyone while I was there.”

Iowa State’s NCAA tournament appearance was the school’s 15th in the last 19 seasons, more than any other Big 12 team.

Carleton represented Canada at the FIBA U16 America’s last season, serving as a co-captain, helping Canada to a silver medal, and qualifying her country for the U17 World Championships this summer. At the FIBA America’s, Carleton finished 6th in tournament scoring averaging 11.4 points-per-game.
