In less than three full years of operation, Southwest Granite and Glass has seen its business more than double, and owners Brad Goldsmith and Kevin Deacon have even bigger plans for the future.

The Keil Drive business is preparing for a six-figure expansion that will quadruple the size of the firm’s fabrication facility.

“We’re barely able to meet our current demand but we want to be able to handle the increases which just keep coming,” Deacon said.

“It is very important to us that we keep our commitment to customers. When we provide a deadline, we meet it,” added Goldsmith.

Southwest is known for its granite counter tops, but it offers full-service kitchen renovations as well among its services.

“We can take you through countertop, sinks, cabinets, glass and tile,” Goldsmith said. “If you want your kitchen taken down to the studs, we can have that done.”

The idea for the business came from Goldsmith’s experience in designing his own home kitchen. “There wasn’t any place I could go locally that met all of my needs,” he said. “I didn’t want to go London or Windsor. It showed me that there was a need for our business.”
Southwest now serves customers throughout Southwestern Ontario.

Goldsmith said key factors behind the firm’s success are its employees and materials.

“We use top-quality materials but what really sets us apart is our service and commitment to doing it right,” he said. “Our philosophy is that if we wouldn’t be happy putting it in our homes, we won’t be satisfied with putting it in yours.”

The firm is proud of what it calls its “perfect edge guarantee.”

While most countertops edges are done by machine, those at Southwest are done by a router and completed by hand.

“A C&C machine just does what it’s programmed to do. It can’t see the differences in the granite that a one of our staff can. It makes all the difference in the finish.”
