A Blenheim man faces numerous charges after tempers flared following a two-vehicle accident in Charing Cross Friday night.

Chatham-Kent police say about 10:15 p.m., two vehicles collided near the intersection of Charing Cross Road and Sylvanna Drive.

According to police, the driver of one vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac SE, hopped out of his car and assaulted the other driver, a 63-year-old Harwich Township man.

The angry man then got back into his car and drove off, police say.

As officers headed towards the scene, they spotted the Pontiac travelling east on Middle Line, heading towards Blenheim. Police say the driver refused to pull over for police and eventually ran into a hydro pole on Chatham Street North in Blenheim.

The driver got out of the car and took off on foot, but officers managed to chase him down, police say.

A 25-year-old Blenheim man is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, assault, flight from police, impaired driving, and driving with a blood/alcohol content of more than 80 milligrams.
