A group of personal support workers picket outside the Red Cross office on Grand Avenue in Chatham Wednesday morning.

Personal support workers with Red Cross Care Partners are under a new contract.

The deal, worked out with the help of an arbitrator, improves the compensation package for the 4,500 PSWs employed by the Red Cross in Ontario. There are about 50 PSWs working out of the Chatham Red Cross offices on Grand Avenue.

The PSWs went off the job in early December and agreed to come back to work about two weeks later, upon learning an arbitrator would sit down and help work out an agreement.

The new contract was issued Jan. 8.
