In the end, the 45-year-old man had to be taken to hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries while the 65-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Carload of folks charged

Four people in the same vehicle face weapons-related charges following an incident early Thursday morning in Chatham.

Police learned of a disturbance on Grand Avenue West in Chatham about 12:30 a.m. Witnesses identified a vehicle involved, which fled the area before police arrived.

Police later located the vehicle, and it was searched after police say officers spotted several prohibited items. This led to the discovery of a firearm and additional prohibited items.

All four occupants of the vehicle, three men, 39, 21 and 19, and a woman, 20, all of Chatham, are charged with unlawful possession and storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
