A Wallaceburg man has to answer to assault charges following a beat down in that community on the weekend.
Police were called shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday over a report of an aggravated assault at an apartment complex on Wallace Street.
The victim was in his vehicle when he was approached by the accused and several others. A verbal dispute escalated, and as the victim exited his vehicle, the accused charged him and punched him several times, police say. The accused continued to strike the victim while on the ground and made threats to kill him, according to police.
The victim managed to escape and sought help at a nearby apartment, where emergency services were called.
He sustained serious injuries.
Video surveillance from the scene confirmed the victim’s account and identified the accused, police say.
About 10:30 p.m. police tracked down the suspect who was riding his bike at that time, and made the arrest.
A 34-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with aggravated assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
