Robbery in downtown Chatham

A local man is up on charges after someone reportedly tried to rob a person who was waiting for the bus Wednesday evening.

Chatham-Kent police say the incident took place about 6 p.m. at the bus station on Wellington Street in Chatham.

A caller reported that a man had approached him and demanded money, while holding an object, threatening harm if the person didn’t comply, police say.

Officers quickly responded and located a suspect matching the description.

A Chatham-Kent man, 51, is charged with robbery with a weapon and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
