A Chatham man faces multiple charges after someone pulled a knife while trying to walk out of a store with items he did not pay for, police say.
On Thursday, about 2:15 p.m., police were called to the St. Clair Street location.
Police say a man was seen picking out various items within the store, including a bicycle. As he attempted to exit the store without paying for them, he was confronted by loss prevention staff.
During the confrontation, police say the man pulled a pocketknife and pointed it at one of the store staff who was trying to detain him.
The accused fled the scene but was pursued by the loss prevention team, who promptly contacted police and provided real-time updates on his location.
A little over an hour later, police located the accused on Gregory Drive and arrested him.
Officers also confirmed the man was bound by two probation orders with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
A 34-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft, possession of stolen property, robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and three counts of failing to comply with various release conditions.
