Scam info from the municipality

If someone shows up at your door saying they are from the municipality and want you to donate money, or buy a product, close the door and call police.

Chatham-Kent officials advised residents to always be cautious of unsolicited people at your door looking for charitable donations or attempting to sell a product or service. Do not let them rush or pressure you into buying a product, signing up for a service, or making a donation.

If you are unsure they are credible, shut the door and call Consumer Protection Ontario at 1-800-889-9768, or (if you live in C-K) call 519-352-1234.

In Ontario, many products and services can only be offered or sold at your home if you initiate the transaction. But learn about your rights. Read the Government of Ontario’s rules for door-to-door sales.
