After nearly two decades of educating more than 25,000 Lambton and Chatham-Kent students on all things water related, Don Hector is retiring.
Hector, who for 18 years served as leader of the Chatham-Kent & Lambton Children’s Water Festival, is stepping down.
That leaves the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) in the hunt for volunteers.
Hector will be tough to replace.
“Don’s passion, commitment, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping the festival into the celebrated event it is today. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don for his unwavering dedication and wish him nothing but the best in his well-deserved retirement, filled with successful fishing adventures,” LTVCA officials said in a media release.
At this point, the LTVCA is looking for a committee lead for the festival, as well as committee members.
The committee lead will oversee the organization and execution of the event. Responsibilities include fundraising, volunteer co-ordination, and overall event management.
In collaboration with the lead, members will contribute to decision-making processes and assist in various aspects of organizing and executing the Water Festival.
Volunteers can expect to attend approximately 10 meetings per year.
