A Chatham man is facing multiple assault charges following an attempted shoplifting Friday afternoon.
Chatham-Kent police say a man entered Home Hardware on Keil Drive in Chatham about 3 p.m. Friday and stole $120 worth of items. As he left the store, police say he was apprehended by the store manager and employees, at which time he assaulted them.
A 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested by police moments later and was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and theft. He was held for a bail hearing.
