The Lambton Kent District School Board will again offer a virtual learning option for the 2024-25 school year.

According to a media release from the board, virtual programming will be available for students in grades 3 to 12.

Parents who wish to enroll their children in virtual learning are advised that online learning is designed to be a permanent yearlong commitment in order to provide stability within the system. In order to assist with staffing and planning decisions, parents and guardians who want their child to return to in-person learning or move to remote learning next year must contact the school their child is currently attending by Feb. 28 to initiate a transfer of programming for 2024-25.

All students presently registered for in-person learning will be automatically pre-registered for in-person learning and no further action is required. Youngsters currently registered for virtual learning will be automatically pre-registered in the virtual learning option.

To facilitate their child’s participation in virtual learning, parents or guardians must provide proof of Ontario residency at the start of each school year. Virtual school officials will communicate with registered families during the week of Aug. 26 to arrange for proof of Ontario residency with confirmation slated by Sept. 13, 2024.

The release states that students will not be able to opt in and out, however, exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis and changes will be based on space availability, which may vary from school to school.

In the elementary stream, virtual students will be registered at McNaughton Avenue Public School in Chatham. Secondary school pupils will be registered at Lambton Kent Composite School in Dresden.

Parents with questions are advised to contact their child’s school directly.
