Chatham-Kent police were called Thursday morning and learned the complaint involved parties that were previously in an intimate relationship.

The situation escalated when the accused also became involved through text messages and phone calls and threatened to hurt the victim and the victim’s child.

Out too late

Police say an off-duty cop found a man lying in the road. The officer determined the male was OK, but was intoxicated and fell off his pedal scooter.

Through further investigation police identified the male, and determined the he had hit the parked truck. Police learned the male was also bound by a probation conditional sentence with a curfew of 9 p.m.

A 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested for one count of Breach of Conditional Sentence Order and remanded back to custody.

The accused did not sustain any injuries, police say, and there was only minor damage to the parked truck.

Shoplifting

A Chatham woman faces charges after someone tried to walk out of the Real Canadian Superstore on a couple of occasions recently without paying for items.

Loss prevention personnel observed the female on Sept. 7 doing just that. They confronted her, police say, and she returned the items upon demand and was trespassed from the property.

On Wednesday, police say the woman returned to the store, gathered up some items and walked out without paying for them.

Staff again confronted her, and she returned the items.

Police confirmed the identity and located the accused.
