Would-be trailer thieves nabbed

Two people are in custody after thieves tried to make off with a trailer from a Sass Road business early Friday morning.

Chatham-Kent police say they got the call about 12:20 a.m. of a man and woman attempting to steal a trailer.

The man and woman left the area in a vehicle and were located by police near the overpass of the 401 and Scane Road near Ridgetown. The woman was located in the vehicle and placed under arrest.

The man attempted to flee from police on foot and was located a short distance away.

Through investigation, police also learned that the vehicle they were operating was reported stolen from Toronto on May 15.

A 51-year-old man of Grand Pointe was charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with release order.

A 50-year-old Windsor woman was charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and facilitating a breach. Both the man and woman were held pending a bail hearing.

Booze stolen, man arrested

A Chatham man faces charges after someone walked off with two bottles of alcohol Thursday, and Chatham-Kent police say the suspect was not even supposed to be in the store.

On June 15 and June 19, a 25-year-old Chatham man was released from court with several conditions. One of the conditions stated that he was to not attend the LCBO on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned the man attended the business twice Thursday and stole the liquor. Police located the man and arrested him.

He was charged with two counts of theft, two counts of property obtained by crime and four counts of failing to comply with his release order. He was held pending a bail hearing.
